Preventative Hygiene
Not All Hygiene Appointments Are The Same…
At Meridian Health Institute we will never give you a “one size fits all” appointment. For each patient we gather very thorough information to best diagnose your personal needs and design a treatment plan especially for you. For your continuing care, we revisit our preliminary data regularly to make sure we always deliver what is best for you and your health.
Prevention is Key
What to expect at your initial hygiene appointment or consultation…
-
Full mouth series of intraoral photos and cavity detecting radiographs to fully diagnose things we cannot easily see.
-
Periodontal charting - 6 measurements on each tooth that measures pocket depth (the gap between the gum and the tooth) to determine the state of health for each patient. This is the area of your gums and bone that support your teeth. Gum disease can cause your gums to bleed or become infected, swollen or tender. As a result, the gum starts to separate from the tooth, creating pockets for disease-causing bacteria to build-up.
-
We will determine the cause of any gum recession, which can occur from clenching, grinding, or a misaligned bite. This can lead to more serious periodontal (gum) disease. If we find the gums are receding, we will share the best solution to address your specific situation.
-
Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR) – A non-invasive treatment using a low powered laser to sterilize the gum tissue, eliminating bacteria that causes inflammation and periodontal disease from entering the bloodstream while preventing cross contamination of infection from one area of the mouth to another. LBR can help boost your immune system and improve overall health.
-
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT) – A conservative, non-surgical treatment for patients dealing with advanced Periodontal (Gum) Disease or an infection of your bone and supporting structures of your teeth. By using a laser, we can selectively remove infected tissue without releasing bacteria into the blood stream. Because the laser kills the disease causing bacteria, LAPT promotes immediate healing by reducing inflammation, rejuvenating gum attachment and promoting bone regeneration.
-
We will identify any contributing factors such as medications or lifestyles which could be interfering with your oral health.
-
We also share current oral hygiene habits you can do at home to best care for your smile every day. Because Meridian provides personalized healthcare, your hygiene appointments will be tailored to your specific needs. As a result, you will have the confidence and peace of mind that you are receiving the most advanced care available.
